Three different ecclesiastical architectural styles, the Raška, Morava and Serbo-Byzantine styles of construction make this part of Europe very attractive and exotic for the rest of the world. Starting from the Old Ras, the place where the medieval Serbian state was created in the 8th century, you will come across the St. Peter’s church and the Đurđevi Stupovi Monastery which are under UNESCO protection. Following the Ibar Valley, also known as the Lilac Valley and the Valley of the Serbian Kings, you will discover the jewels of the Serbian architecture, the monasteries of Žiča, Studenica and Gradac, founded by the Nemanjić dynasty. Serbia, through its history have always been at the crossroads of the East and the West. One still can see the influence of the Ottoman, Byzantine and Austro-Hungarian empires in its culture and architecture, and yet she has managed to protect her spiritual and cultural heritage specificity.
Arrival in Belgrade. Transfer to the hotel.
We will first visit the Saint-Sava temple. Saint-Sava was the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1219. Later, we will visit Saint Mark church built in the 1930s. It houses the tomb containing the relics of the Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan. We will continue our walk in the district of Dorcol before having lunch in a restaurant in Skadarlija street, the so-called “Montmartre of Belgrade”.
This afternoon, we will have a walk in the Old city center, Republic Square, Knez Mihalova Street, Kalamegdan fortress. We will see the Ruzica church located in the fortress and dating from the 19th century.

Departure to Despotovac. We will visit the Manasija monastery founded by the Despot Stefan Lazarevic at the beginning of the 15th century. The monastery housed the Resava copy school and ensured the preservation of ancient Serbian texts for centuries. Afterwards, we will visit the Ravanica monastery founded in the 14th century by Prince Lazar. Due to its architectural and pictorial style, it belongs to the artistic style of the “Morava School”.

This afternoon we will visit Kruševac, the capital of medieval Serbia at the end of the 14th century. We will visit the Lazarica church built by Prince Lazar at the end of the 14h century. It is a jewel of the Morava architecture style.

This morning we will visit the Ljubostinja monastery founded in 1388. It houses the tomb of the Princess Milica who was the wife of Prince Lazar. Later, we will visit the Ziča monastery, built at the beginning of the 13th century by Stefan „ the First-Crowned”. All the Nemanjic dynasty rulers were also crowned in this monastery.

This afternoon, we will continue our voyage and discover Studenica monastery, the largest and richest monastery complex of medieval Serbia (12th century). It is on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986 and has a great collection of Byzantine fresco paintings from the 13th and 14th centuries. We will end our day by visiting the Gradac monastery founded in the 13th century by Hélène d’Anjou and King Uroš the 1st. The architecture of the monastery is a combination of Gothic, Roman and Serbian Byzantine styles.

Today, we will visit Djurdjevi Stupovi monastery founded by Stefan Nemanja in the 12th century. Afterwards, we will visit Saint Peter’s church built in the 8th century, one of the oldest in Serbia. They are both on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979.

This afternoon, our route will take us to Mileševa monastery founded by the King Vladislav Nemanjić. It houses the fresco of the “White Angel”, a masterpiece of Serbian art of the 13th century.
Return to Novi Pazar.

This morning we will visit Sopoćani monastery founded in the 13th century by King Uroš the Ist Nemanić. The well-preserved frescoes are considered a real masterpiece of Byzantine painting. The monastery is on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979. We will continue our trip to the Ovčar-Kablar canyon considered as the Serbian Mount Athos. The region was the host of many monasteries built since the 14th century. Today there are ten active monasteries and we will visit Saint Nicholas monastery dating from the 15th century. It houses beautiful frescoes and a collection of manuscripts.
