Overview

Explore the untouched nature and the cultural heritage of Pannonia during a walking tour through the largest sandy area in Europe, the Deliblato Sands Nature Reserve which is also called the “Sahara of Europe”. Discover the Vršac Hills by foot or by bike before a stop to relax in one of the traditional wineries, where you will enjoy the particularity of the food and wine of this region. Just a few kilometers from the center of Belgrade at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube rivers, you will go on  kayaking around the Great War Island nature reserve, which is a real oasis and an escape from the city for all nature lovers. This adventure will give you the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauties of Serbia, at a slower pace, with a unique combination of trekking, cycling and kayaking.

Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival in Belgrade

Arrival and transfer to the hotel.
We will begin our discovery of Belgrade with a city walking tour with our local guide. Our tour will start at St. Sava Church via Slavija Square, St. Mark’s Church, Parliament, Skadarlija district “Belgrade Montmartre” and Kalemegdan Fortress.
Lunch at a restaurant in the Kalemegdan Fortress.
This afternoon we will kayak on the Danube and the Sava River and we will have a chance to see the city from another angle. We can enjoy this natural lung in the heart of the city with its lush vegetation (possibility to go kayaking around the Great Island of War).
Dinner and overnight in Belgrade.

Day 2. Belgrade, Avala

Departure to Mount Avala (511 meters above sea level) located about 10 kilometres from Belgrade. Start of our walk from the village of Ripanj to the summit through the forest. When we reach the summit, we will see the Monument to the Unknown Hero built by the Croatian architect Ivan Mestrovic in 1938 in honor of the victims of the First World War.
Lunch at the restaurant.
This afternoon, we will climb to the observation and telecommunication tower of Avala of 204.5 meters high, symbol of Belgrade and which offers a breathtaking view of the capital and its surroundings.
Back to Belgrade.
Dinner and overnight in Belgrade.

Day 3. Belgrade, Fruska Gora National Park, Novi Sad

This morning, departure to the Fruska Gora National Park which was an island in the heart of the ancient Pannonian Sea that covered this region a few million years ago. Start of our walk to the monasteries of Staro and Novo Hopovo founded by the Despot’s Brankovic family in the 15th and 16th centuries and the Grgeteg monastery dating from the 15th century.
Picnic lunch while hiking.
Departure by bus to Novi Sad which will be the cultural capital of Europe in 2021. We will take a walk in the Old Town with Austro-Hungarian architecture, very strongly inspired by the Viennese Baroque. Afterwards, we will walk in the fortress of Petrovaradin, symbol of the city dating from the 13th century and overlooking the Danube. Every summer it hosts the EXIT music festival, famous in Europe.
We will spend the night and dine in a Salas, a typical farm of the region.

Day 4. Novi Sad – Hills of Vršacki Breg – Vršac

This morning we will depart for Vršac, one of the oldest towns in the Banat region at the foot of the Vršacki Breg hills. Discovery on foot or by bike Vršacki Breg. While walking, we will visit a wine cellar in the village of Gudurica where it is said that every old house has its wine cellar.
Lunch accompanied by a wine tasting.
This afternoon, continue our hike and return to Vršac at the end of the day. We will take a tour of the city and discover its architecture with Austro-Hungarian mark.
Dinner in a traditional restaurant and overnight in Vršac.

This morning, departure to the Deliblato Sands Nature Reserve (Deliblatska Pescara), the largest sandy area in Europe known as the “Sahara of Europe”. It was formed following the drying up of the Pannonian sea that existed in prehistoric times. Discovery of this strange landscape composed of dunes alternating with pine forests and sheltering a great biodiversity.
Lunch in the form of a picnic.
Back to Belgrade at the end of the day.
Dinner and overnight in Belgrade.
