Overview

Historically and geographically, Belgrade and Novi Sad have played a very important role in shaping and creating the modern Serbian state. The cities that lie on the banks of the Danube river are adorned by the Kalemegdan and Petrovaradin fortresses. The tales of their history, cultural heritage and roles through the centuries are jalously kept in the Museum of Vojvodina, the Museum of Novi Sad and the National Museum of Belgrade. The monasteries of Krušedol, Staro and Novo Hopovo played an important part in spreading spirituality, education and culture in this region. At first glance, two completely different cities – Belgrade, the best kept secret of Europe, the city at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the city that never sleeps and Novi Sad – the Serbian Athens, the European Capital of Culture, the city of museums, the center of Serbian culture and creativity, will welcome you with open arms.
